1) What goes on at a La Leche League meeting?
Our meetings are designed to be loosely structured, informal get-togethers where breastfeeding parents can connect with one another. Parents can ask questions, share experiences and information, and enjoy conversation. We generally try to keep to breastfeeding related topics. Meetings are led by an accredited La Leche League leader who helps to facilitate discussions and represent LLL. They typically last 1-1 ½ hours. 2) Who can attend LLL of Eastern Cincinnati and Clermont County meetings? In our chapter we welcome all families interested in breastfeeding to attend meetings, from pregnancy to weaning. Breastfeeding mothers and parents are encouraged to bring their nursing babies. We also welcome fathers and partners, and any other support person who helps you in your breastfeeding journey. We also allow older, non-nursing toddlers and children. Since we at LLL are all parents, we understand that it’s sometimes not possible to arrange childcare for older children. We hold our meetings in childcare rooms where there are plenty of toys to keep children entertained. 3) Can I attend even if I’m not having any breastfeeding challenges? Yes! Every breastfeeding parent is welcome, even if you do not have a specific concern or question. In fact, your experience and presence may provide encouragement and support to another who is struggling! La Leche League is a great place to connect with others, no matter where you are in your feeding journey. Pregnant parents are also welcome and encouraged to attend, since building a support network through LLL can help get breastfeeding off to a good start. 4) Does it cost anything to attend meetings? No! Meetings are free to attend, as is contacting a La Leche League leader for breastfeeding support. If you find LLL helpful and want to help us in our mission, we do offer memberships for a low cost to help fund our non-profit group, but they are not required. We also accept donations. Contact us for more information about group funds and membership. Click Here to donate. 5) Do I have to RSVP to attend? No, feel free to attend if you have not RSVP'd. You can reach out through phone, email or text, or by responding to our Facebook event pages so that we can anticipate how many will attend, but it is not required! 6) What if I need help with breastfeeding but can’t/don’t want to attend a meeting? We are here to help! La Leche League leaders are available by phone, text, email and facebook to provide one on one support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need support! We make every effort to respond quickly, however, we are volunteers with families and other responsibilities; if you reach out to one of us and we do not reply within a few hours, please reach out to another leader who may be able to get back with you more quickly! LLLohio.org provides a comprehensive list of leaders in Ohio. 7) I see you hold your meetings in churches. Are you a religious organization? No. La Leche League USA is a non-sectarian non-profit with no religious affiliation. We welcome all attendees, no matter their religious or political beliefs. At LLL Eastern Cincy, we hold meetings in spaces that are available to us and free to use, accessible, and child-friendly. 8) Do your meetings ever get canceled for any reason? It is rare, but sometimes meetings may be canceled due to weather or a family emergency. We will make any last minute update or change to meeting information on our Facebook Events, and attempt to contact anyone who RSVPed. You can always reach out by phone, email or text message to check on our meeting status. 9) I’m interested in becoming more involved with LLL or helping others with breastfeeding. How can I do that? If you like helping others, you may be interested in becoming a leader yourself! We have also have non-leader volunteer opportunities in our group. Please reach out if you are interested in helping others through La Leche League- we’ll gladly help you to help others! |
